On Saturday, September 21, at 10 pm, a motorcyclist was killed in an accident.
A witness reports that the biker was attempting to get on the freeway at the Scarsdale entrance ramp. However, the biker was headed up at such a high speed that he struck the guardrail instead.
The biker was rushed to Clear Lake Regional Medical Center for many severe injuries and unfortunately passed away at the hospital.
Here at Lapeze & Johns, we have helped victims of both single-vehicle accidents and motorcycle accidents fight for their right to compensation from negligent parties who have caused them injury. Although single-vehicle accidents consist of one vehicle, several parties can succumb to injury and death. That is, the operator of that single vehicle and the passengers in the same car.
However, it is not always the fault of the operator. Other drivers or exterior conditions such as poor road conditions, defective motor vehicle parts, and/or other negligent drivers can all cause a single-vehicle crash.
Causes of single-car accidents can include the following:
These causes may create a number of dangerous scenarios for an operator of the vehicle. Head injuries, neck injuries, lacerations, broken bones and other injuries may occur, if not death. Damages from such accidents can include physical harm, mental distress, emotional anguish, losing the capacity to work, impact on personal relationships, and property damage. Though just one vehicle is involved, the consequences can be many.
According to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the year 2018 had zero days were a death had not happened. In fact, 3,639 deaths occurred in the state that same year. Additionally, 14,908 injuries occurred from these collisions.
The city of Houston experienced 64,127 motor vehicle crashes in 2018. The statistics for these incidents are as follows:
Across the state, 1,289 motor vehicle deaths were involving single-vehicle crashes. That is 35.42 percent of all motor vehicle deaths in 2018. Notably, approximately 418 motorcyclists were also killed, 49 percent of whom were not wearing safety helmets at the time of the crash.
Motorcyclists and drivers who crash independently from other drivers should know that compensation can be pursued if they were not the sole cause of the accident.
If another party held some fault in causing your crash, it is important to seek experienced legal help to recover compensation. You should not have to deal with the pain and suffering alone.
Know that we will be here for you every step of the way. Let us help build a case that can secure maximum damages to aid in your best recovery.
